Located in the down town, between the citizen theater and the immense Ducal Palace, the hotel Universo is considered as one of the historical monuments of the XIX° Lucca. Each of the 60 rooms has a spectacular view either of the Cathedral, the tree-lined Piazza Napoleone or Piazza del Giglio with its 18th century theatre. Inside a XVI° circle walls kept intact and transformed into a green promenade, Lucca
has kept the aspect of the city-state of the past, with the medieval urbanistic plant
made of very narrow lanes and streets on which stone towers elevate and suddenly open
spaces which are the small places of the small Romanian Churches.
It's to take into consideration for a day out of the town, a visit to the
"Villas" that's to say the Palais in villa, country historical demeures, that
the merchants of Lucca have built from the XV up to the XIX century. They are in great
number (more than three hundreds, great and small), are distributed on all the hill arch
that defines and limits the geographical area of the Piana of Lucca. Lucca has very
important traditions in the field of music, and has given birth to four great
musicians: Francesco Geminiani, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani and Guicomo Pucini.
There are many manifestations, but, now, the most applauded are those dedicated to the
music to the past, in particular the appointments at the Theatre of the Giglio, and
contemporary, thanks to the summer festival.
