Via S. Gallo, 30 - 50129 Firenze
After taking over the ownership and management of the hotel, the Bufalini family has personally overseeing the renovation of Orto de' Medici. This hotel is completely new, featuring rooms with balconies facing the historic city of Florence, halls with frescoes, a terrace and a new entrance directly on the main street. Built in the mid 19th century, the entire structure has maintained its original aspect and style.
The Hotel Orto de' Medici is situated in a 19th Century palace in the center of the city, close to Piazza S. Marco and the Academy (home to Michelagelo's David), just 10 minutes on foot from the Duomo. The 31 rooms, restored and furnished to maintain their original charm, each have direct dialing phone, colour TV, safe, air-conditioning (from June to Sept.) and fridge bar. Guest can enjoy the beautiful sitting room and breakfast room decorated with frescos, and relax on the lovely terrace covered with an array of colorful flowers. The central position of the Hotel, its well appointed banqueting suits, make it ideal for private functions such as business meetings, wedding receptions and cocktails parties.
"In the second half of the fifteenth century the Garden of San Marco lay between Via degli Arazzieri and Via San Silvestro; within its auspices Lorenzo dei Medici and Master Bertoldo di Giovanni instructed the minds of the young Michelangelo and other artists. In memory of this, posterity has recognized this garden as the first museum and art academy in Europe."
There is a garage nearby and another within 13 minutes walking distance, both for a fee.
Update 2009
The Florence Medici Garden in San Marco is restored!!
The new plants are flowering,
like the romantic white rose bush rows. The covered walkway, of iron and glass, is ready
and it will be enlightened by night for a charming passage.
The choice of this statue is not casual.
First of all it reminds the Renaissance sculpture, since right here sculpting was taught
for the first time in history as in a real
But there is also something more: the
Putto originally decorated the Fountain of Love in the garden of
the Careggi Medici Villa. Around that fountain the Florence Platonic Academy used to meet
during the summer time. You should imagine all these famous philosophers, politicians and
artists discussing about love, society and literature in a garden like this, accompanied
by the relaxing sound of the fountain. So it is one more connection with the extraordinary
heritage of Renaissance and of the Medici family, who promoted, so deeply and for many
generations, the cultural, artistic and scientific life of their ages.
Comments from past clients -
"The Orto d' Medici in Florence was just north of the prime tourist areas and we like that as it was not too crowded and the kids got more of a flavor of what it would be like for the locals to live in the city. The staff was extremely helpful, there were no problems with reservations and breakfast was good."
"We just returned from italy and loved our stay at the Orto de Medici. We had a wonderful, balaconied room overlooking the terrace. We would recommend the hotel to others looking for a quiet spot within an easy walk of major sights. The front desk assisted us with reservation for museums and recommended several good restaurants. Thanks for arranging the room for us!"
"The room at Orto de Medici was so lovely that it broke my heart when we had to leave. The location was perfect."
"Excellent location, rooms spacious and quiet, staff couldn't have been more helpful. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay in Florence".
"What a wonderful hotel, we loved it! The staff was superb and the room on the top floor with the terrace looking over the roofs of Florence was magic".

"Orto de Medici - Florence Part 1
I split this hotel because the two rooms we had were SO different. I loved the first room we got there, beautiful wood floors and antique furniture. It wasnt huge but felt huge because of the 18 ft ceiling! We also loved the fact that we could open our windows and had a view of the street and building across the way and made it easy to check the weather! This hotel was the first where we encountered the "electric key" That was a little strange but we got used to it quickly. The common areas of the hotel were nice too, a library lounge, with a mac to access the internet. A very nice and spacious dining room for breakfast with a large outdoor patio off the dining room as well. The breakfast was really good with a nice variety of fresh fruit and baked goods, juices and coffee and teas.
Orto de Medici - Florence Part 2
We returned to this hotel and got a completely different kind of room. It was obviously a renovated room, the bathroom alone was three separate rooms! One for the toilet, one for the shower and one for the sinks and tub, and let me tell you about that tub
it was longer then I am tall!! The room was big and spacious and had a sitting area (which could definitely have slept one more!) The closet was huge too." 12-09Rates 2011 CALL US FOR THE BEST AVAILABLE RATES!!
