Ami Apartment (6th. Arr)
Rue Du Four
Accommodates: 6 people
Metro: St. Germain or St. Sulpice
**Minimum 7 night stay**
A family seeking stylish accommodations in a vibrant Left Bank
neighborhood will enjoy this bright and well-appointed apartment. Its comfort and
convenience will only enhance the memories of a period spent as a true Parisian.
Within steps of the building entrance are some of the best-known and most fashionable
streets of Paris - rue de Rennes, de Grenelle, du Dragon, de Bonaparte and Saint-Sulpice.
A left turn on rue de Rennes leads to boulevard Saint-Germain and three of Paris' most
famous literary cafés - Deux Magots, Flore and Brasserie Lipp. Across the street from
Café les Deux Magots is the venerable Eglise Saint-German and a Métro stop of the same
name. The Mabillon Métro stop is further down the boulevard at its intersection with rue
du Four.
Standing on the streets of Paris and looking up at the Hausmann-style buildings that line
them, one pauses to wonder what it is like inside those handsome-looking apartments with
their molded ceilings and softly illuminated walls. An elevator ride to the fourth floor
of the newly renovated building on rue du Four, an address situated at the very heart of
the Left Bank's 6th arrondissement, offers another lovely example of the style, elegance
and comfort that characterize apartments in these noble Belle Epoque structures.
The 110 m2 (1,165 sq. feet) apartment is designed around the living room, large enough for
a whole family to relax and read, or have an aperitif before dinner, or get those
postcards out of the way. The living room is furnished with three overstuffed velvet
sofas, oriental carpets, and long, shimmering drapes. An overhead fixture and several
standing lamps provide lighting that can be adjusted from brilliant to intimate. Eclectic
works of art complement the rust-colored furnishings and complete the sophisticated
atmosphere of the space.
The open plan kitchen and dining area is a masterpiece of dramatic colors and patterns,
from the black, sinuous curves of the custom-made chandelier illuminating the entire room,
to the deep red of the thick carpet on the dining area floor. The space is divided by an
island, with a dining table for six people on one side, and a flawlessly appointed work
area on the other. The applianceslarge refrigerator and freezer, dishwasher, double
oven are all cleverly concealed behind black cabinet doors. The professional
five-burner stovetop seems almost as if it were designed to complement the overall theme
of color and style. Toaster, espresso maker, and microwave are all nestled into corners of
the kitchen, leaving the rest of the large, black stone countertops open as preparation
space.
The three bedrooms are all quite different in character, each with its own theme and bold
blend of colors. The master bedroom, which opens off the foyer, is decorated in rich woods
and deep reds. An ensuite bathroom with double vanities and a Jacuzzi tub is done in black
and white stone and tile. The bedroom windows are covered with rice paper, giving both
privacy and plentiful light, and the rooms location on the courtyard assures perfect
quiet. A large armoire dominates one side of the room, opposite the king-sized bed. The
television, with English-language channels and a DVD player, is positioned next to the
armoire.
A second bedroom, which has two twin beds, opens from the living room and has views of the
street. This room is decorated in earthy yellows and reds, and has a good-sized armoire
for clothes storage. Occupants of this bedroom share the bath of the master bedroom, to
which they have direct access from the room.
A long hallway from the foyer leads to the third bedroom and another bathroom. An
independent WC for use by occupants of the master and second bedroom is on the hallway
just beyond the foyer.
The third bedroom, especially suitable for a couple who desiring extra privacy, enjoys
perfect quiet from its position overlooking the sunny courtyard. A striking modern
painting of a dancer, the obvious inspiration for this rooms color scheme, hangs
over the bed. The spacious bathroom, just outside in the hallway and like the master
bedroom finished in white tile and black stone, has twin basins under a wide, brilliantly
lit mirror, a tub with hand-held shower, and a WC.
