Locanda Rosati
Loc. Buonviaggio, 22
05018 Orvieto - Italy
The Locanda Rosati is a typical stone country house located only a few kilometers from the magical city of Orvieto along the panoramic road to Lake Bolsena. The drive from the valley (toll highway A1 Orvieto exit) offers magnificent views of the city. High up on a majestic plateau, the mediaeval towers and buildings stand silhouetted against the sky and the great cathedral glows gold in the afternoon sun. The Locanda Rosati is a warm and friendly haven at the end of a long day spent wandering around mediaeval towns. The owners' main concern is how to make your stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Geographically, the house is ideally located for day trips to the historical cities of Lazio and parts of Tuscany, including the Val d'Orcia, Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, where old traditions in culture, wine and food still reign. The loveliest cities in Umbria are also within easy reach, including Todi, Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, as well as the fascinating smaller towns such as Spello, Cortona, Cittą della Pieve. Giampiero can give you helpful hints for unusual itineraries, all the more interesting because they are off the beaten track.
The countryside is unbelievably beautiful all year round. What could be nicer than sitting around the fire, sipping a glass of fine local wine, after a hike through the woods and fields. In summer you can wind down in the park with a dip in the swimming pool reserved for guests framed by olive trees and, in the distance, grottoes and caves. Once you have been here and let the true soul of Umbria sink in, you'll be eager to return to enjoy the stimulating company in the relaxing atmosphere of the Locanda Rosati.
The house itself is furnished so as to make you feel at home. The ground floor has an
intimate reading or music room as well as a large informal space for casual encounters and
conversation. The guest rooms (one of which is equipped for the disabled) are simply but
elegantly furnished.
It's easy to remember which room is yours, for all are metaphorically inhabited by local
creatures - hare, dog, badger, dormouse, raccoon, cat and frog - shown (in wood) above the
door.
The quality cuisine reflects the origin of your hosts and keeps faith with the finest tradition of the Umbrian and Tuscan countryside. Appetizing home-made pasta dishes and hearty soups with cold pressed extra-virgin olive oil, as well as Tuscan ribollita (vegetable and bread soup), prepared by Alba with produce and herbs from the Locanda's garden, are served every day. Delicious savory roasts, fragrant bread and pizza all come out of the traditional wood-burning brick oven. From the dining room you can reach the wine cellar, hand-carved from lava rock. The Locanda Rosati is an ideal place for an encounter. The evenings pass all too quickly around the dinner table, where Giampiero and Paolo regale their guests with stories and help them decide on the next day's outing.
