Hotel Borgo Tre Rose is a carefully restored and rebuilt medieval hamlet that welcomes visitors wishing to stay in this wonderful corner of Tuscany, between Montepulciano and Cortona.  Pretty rooms and comfortable apartments are at the disposal of those looking for convenient services, or the freedom of independent accommodation.  Surrounded by the most beautiful part of Tuscany, the atmosphere of the most picturesque and memorable part of Tuscany can be seen everywhere:

  • in the view of vineyard-lined hills
  • in the traditional architecture of the hamlet
  • in the furnishings of the rooms and apartments
  • in the wines of the Tre Rose Estate
  • in the restaurant’s traditional cuisine, which has remained faithful to the time-honoured culinary traditions of the local area

A stay at Borgo Tre Rose means being able to relax just a handful of minutes from Montepulciano, Cortona, Pienza, Chianciano Terme and Montalcino.  It means having the option of taking a family holiday or enjoying a romantic weekend in the Tuscan countryside; it means discovering true Tuscan flavours on a winegrowing estate, which is open to guests for tours and tasting sessions.

In Tuscany, every place has a special story behind it. And the story of Borgo Tre Rose begins in the twelfth century, when the tower which still dominates the hamlet to this day was the residence of Santa Margherita da Cortona.  The name, Tre Rose, derives from the coat of arms of the Vagnucci family, which bought the hamlet in 1450 during the Tuscan Renaissance; the very same period when the great Leonardo da Vinci portrayed Borgo Tre Rose in his work entitled “Bird’s eye view of the Val di Chiana” in 1502.  The skilled and painstaking restoration of this historic Tuscan hamlet has resulted in a Superior 3-star hotel for travelers that want to savour beauty, nature, art and the history of Tuscany.

Restaurant

Choosing Hotel Borgo Tre Rose for a stay in Montepulciano also means enjoying the privilege of savouring the traditional Tuscan cuisine served in the hotel.  The wholesome ingredients used, the skilled staff and the stunning surroundings of the historical dining room and the panoramic terrace together allow diners to savour the delightful flavours of Tuscany and its landscapes at the same time.  Traditional Tuscan dishes are prepared in their purest and most mouthwatering form here, with local cheeses such as Pecorino di Pienza or the renowned “formaggio di fossa”, literally “pit cheese”.  There are also rare delicacies such as Cinta Senese salami, and extra virgin oil made from traditional Tuscan olives (Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino) that are hand-picked and cold-pressed.  Not to mention homemade pasta dishes prepared with the traditional pici and pappardelle pasta, and meat and game dishes for eating with a full-bodied red wine such as Nobile di Montepulciano.  To round the meal off on a sweet note, the delightful desserts prepared by the restaurant’s patisserie are perfect for eating with a glass of sweet Vinsanto dessert wine.

Wines and Cellars

Borgo Tre Rose is the perfect destination for those wanting to learn more about Tuscany’s wines and wine cellars.  Located inside the Tre Rose Estate, it stands out for its production of the Nobile di Montepulciano wine, which is produced with the grapes of autochthonous grape varieties, and is aged in large oak casks and in barrels.  It is a wine that has won international prizes and awards with the Simposio label (pure Sangiovese only obtained from long-standing vines) and with La Villa, which combines Sangiovese with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  In addition to the traditional local wines such as Vinsanto, new experiments have also been carried out on the Tre Rose Estate such as the introduction of the Viognier grape variety, originally from the banks of the Rodano river.  In its pure form it is used to make Tuscan IGT (typical geographical indication) Busillis. Pure Chardonnay is also used to make IGT Renaio here.

A wine tour and award-winning wines

The Tre Rose Estate is part of the Tenimenti Angelini estates, a collection of three historical Tuscan wine cellars. Visiting the other sister estates offer the chance for a memorable tour that takes in the most beautiful places and flavours in Tuscany.  At the Fattoria San Leonino farm estate at Castellina in Chianti set on Sienna’s hills, the star of the show is the Chianti Classico in its most traditional form, as well as surprising and innovative variations on the theme.

The local Extra Virgin olives are hand-picked and cold-pressed, offering another fascinating opportunity for a tasting session.  The Val di Suga Estate, set on the hill of Montalcino, produces a Rosso (Red) and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (controlled and warranted designation of origin).  The strategic position of the estate, with vineyards on three different sides of the hill, makes it possible to obtain different Crus of Brunello, each with its own specific and well-defined personality.

Each year, we have the pleasure of seeing our wines once again listed in the most prestigious specialist wine guides and magazines both in Italy and worldwide, such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Decanter and the Slow Wine guide.  Accordingly, in the last 4 years we have received the highest vote in the Gambero Rosso guide, the much sought-after Three Glasses, and four times now we have received the Five Bunches grade from the Italian Sommelier Association.
