Locanda di San Francesco is set inside a magnificent Palace of the 14th century located hilltop in the historical center of Montepulciano. The ancient Palazzo has been restored to its ancient splendor and is an exclusive Inn overlooking one of the most beautiful squares in town, Piazza San Francesco boasting a splendid view across the Orcia Valley.

La Locanda di San Francesco occupies what was once the Oratorio di Sant’Emidio e della Misericordia, rising above the ancient city walls that surround the oldest part of Montepulciano. It is attached to the 14th century church of Saint Francis and dominates the square of the same name. Careful restoration, commissioned and supervised with great passion by the present owners, has brought to life the historic gothic portal of the church, secret rooms and ancient bell towers, giving new life to the building and the whole square. The rooms are situated on the first floor and are fitted with independent air conditioning, minibar, LED satellite TV, telephone, DVD player and free wi-fi and high speed Internet connection.  Beds are queen or king size and each room is personalised with sophisticated and exclusive furnishings. High quality parquet floors and elegant fabrics add to the atmosphere.  Most of the roomy bathrooms have large windows with the same views that can be admired from the rooms. They feature large shower stalls (1.8 m x 1 m), are equipped with hair dryers and universal power sockets with courtesy Aveda toiletries.

La stanza secreta, discovered during restoration,is a cosy evocative sitting room with views onto the Val D’Orcia and two stone walls that once formed part of the bell tower of the church of Saint Francis. It now completes one of the two suites. The roomy bathrooms have large windows with the same views that can be admired from the rooms. They feature large shower stalls (1.8 m x 1 m), are equipped with hair dryers and universal power sockets with courtesy Hermès toiletries.

The large reception room situated on the ground floor features a cross vaulted ceiling, sitting room, substantial library, lounge bar for guest enjoyment and is reserved for guest breakfasts. As you may forget about the rest of the world during your stay at La Locanda there is an free internet connection point on the accommodations floor. You can conveniently drive right to the entrance of the palace. The owners, Cinzia Caporali and Luca De Nicolò, live in the same building and are at your disposal for the length of your stay for any requirements.

Wine Bar
The "E lucevan le stelle" wine bar-bistrot and La Locanda di San Francesco are under the same ownership and situated in the same building that faces onto Piazza San Francesco. Enter through the two magnificent wooden doors to an extensive panoramic terrace to enjoy the Tuscan sun from early morning and to admire unforgettable sunsets over the Val D’Orcia. Taste prized Tuscan wines, well-know Italian and French wines, and some of the best specialities of the local cuisine in the wine bar whose stone walls reveal traces of ancient windows and 14th century arches, the perfect setting for periodic art exhibitions.

Guests have exclusive use of the terrace for breakfast, and rooms for specialized tastings are available on request. Access is through an internal passageway reserved for guests.
