Villa Poggiano is nestled amid 6 hectares of parkland, on a crest above the gentle hills of the Val d’Orcia, just 2 kilometres from Montepulciano. After a long and meticulous reconstruction, the present owners succeeded in restoring the 18th century Villa to its original splendour. Guests to the Villa will find a refined and exclusive environment, characterised by the sort of warm welcome that only a family-run establishment can offer. There can be no better way to start the day than with a superb breakfast in a luxury B&B. Every morning guests are treated to a display of delicious cakes, biscuits and pastries all made by our chef. We also offer a select range of pecorino cheeses, Tuscan cured meats and many other specialities, which vary according to the season.

Villa Poggiano offers 3 double rooms and 11 suites, each one very different from the others, and there are 4 categories - classic rooms, superior rooms, suites & luxury suites. The rooms and suites are located in different buildings and are furnished with antique furniture, paintings and tapestries, which create an elegant yet warm and welcoming environment. Those situated in the Villa overlook the Italian garden and the splendid travertine swimming pool, while those in the lodges on the grounds of the Villa enjoy a magnificent view of the endless cornfields, vineyards and olive groves of the Val D’Orcia. All rooms feature air conditioning, satellite TV, safe, mini-bar, tea kettle, free wifi connection, and an external telephone line.
Villa Poggiano is perfectly situated for day trips to the great cities of art (Siena, Florence, Perugia, Assisi and Rome), as well as for visiting the smaller nearby towns of Montepulciano, Pienza, Monticchiello, Montalcino and Cortona, places well-known the world over. It is 1 1/2 miles to Montepulciano; 1 1/2 hours North of Rome and 1 hour South of Florence. The Val d'Orcia area is a UNESCO world heritage site.
History
The Villa and the adjacent buildings were built as a summer residence in the 18th century by the aristocratic Poliziana Gagnoni family. The main body of the Villa was successively restructured, before becoming the building as we know it today. The most recent of the rebuilding work was carried out in the mid 1900s when the Signorini family sold the property to the Helmke family, of German origin. The magnificent outdoor facilities such as the swimming pool, the statues and fountains, as well as some interior embellishments, were added in about 1940. The neo-classical style popular at the time is particularly apparent in the statues decorating the swimming pool, which were clearly inspired by the statues of the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome, designed by the architect Enrico del Debbio between 1927 and 1932. The Helmke family sold the property in the 1950s. Subsequently the Villa changed hands several times before finally being acquired by the Savini family in 2000, who, after long and meticulous reconstruction work at last restored the Villa to its former splendor and made it the charming inn it is today.
Cooking Classes
Classes are for everyone - from beginners to lovers of good food and those who want to learn our traditional recipes and have fun learning to make pasta. Courses are held in the afternoon starting at 4.00pm. We will prepare a full menu including homemade pasta and tiramisù. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, or if you are vegetarian please let us know in advance of your stay.

Tuscany is a famous red wine region and Montepulciano's Vino Nobile is world renowned. There are several wineries in our area with which we have collaborated for years and we'll be happy to make suggestions or to book tastings as well as half or full day winery tours with a driver. Not far away is Montalcino with its famous Brunello wines and we can suggest several wineries to visit there as well.
Rent a Vespa
There is nothing more delightful than renting a vespa for a day to wander along our beautiful country roads, feeling the wind in your hair and enjoying spectacular views at every turn. The vespas are 125cc, easy to use and may be driven by anyone over 18 years of age. Each vespa carries two people. Helmet, gloves and itineraries will be provided by the rental company.
Bike Rental
It is true that Tuscany by bike can be a challenge for all but trained bikers. However, e-bikes with assisted pedalling makes this wonderful experience available to everyone. We work with the best companies in the area whose offerings range from simple rentals to guided tours. Just ask and we'll provide you with all the information.
