Hotel degli Orafi & Orafi Tower Suites
Florence, Italy
Owned by the Brini-Batacchi family the Hotel Degli Orafi is well known worldwide , as the setting for James Ivory’s film “A Room with a View”. The film was the winner of 3 Oscars in 1985, including the one for the best set design. This magnificent 4-star luxury hotel is located in an ancient Florentine building dating back to the 13th century. You will find it in the centre of the city next to the River Arno and just a few steps away from the famous Ponte Vecchio & the Uffizi Gallery. Formerly an Augustinian convent, this building has the remains of an ancient medieval tower, later destroyed by the “Ghibellinis” in 1260.
Today the tower is partly restored and you can enjoy the original frescoes of the XII century in the modern library. When you enter the hotel you will immediately be immersed in an environment of true beauty, from the elegant newly restored lobby to the beautifully and classically furnished rooms with breathtaking views. From our roof terrace bar you can admire the view over the Arno River, the Georgofili Academy, the Palazzo Vecchio (the ancient residence of the Medici family), the Vasarian Corridor & the Brunelleschi’s Dome. This splendid city considered as the cradle of the Italian Renaissance has no equal for art and architecture. This is also the perfect place to try the excellent Tuscan Cuisine, visit the beautiful Chianti region with its wine yards and to shop in the famous boutiques in the centre. The Hotel Degli Orafi, in the heart of the historic centre, has got everything on its doorstep. The location and the great service make our Hotel one of the most attractive and unforgettable places to stay.
The 42 rooms, divided into Classic, Executive and Junior Suites, are spacious and elegant, finely finished in period furniture, and provided with all comforts. The new wing “Orafi Tower”, in the restored part of the ancient tower, hosts the suites, elegantly furnished in a more modern style, particularly suitable for longer stays or for families who will appreciate more space. All floors are served by lifts and the Hotel has also been adapted for disabled use. All the rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a direct phone line, minibar, satellite TV and a safe. The bathrooms are made in marble, with either showers or tubs; many of the rooms have two washbasins and/or separate WC. In here you will also find a hairdryer, bathrobe, vanity set and slippers.
Worthy of note is the celebrated “Room with a view”, where James Ivory shot some of the scenes of the film of the same name in 1985. This Executive Room offers a unique view over the Ponte Vecchio, thanks to the large terrace where you can enjoy moments of complete relaxation overlooking the banks of the Arno.
Particular rooms view the Arno embankment, Ponte Vecchio with its goldsmith's shops, Georgofili Academy, Palazzo Vecchio, the ancient Medici residence, Vasary gallery and Brunelleschi Dome. The breakfast lounge with frescos dating back from 1800 faces the Lungarno and Ponte Vecchio. From the roof garden, situated on the 5th floor, a splendid panorama can be seen both on the roofs of the ancient city and its monuments, and on the Florentine hills.
