Romantic hotel & restaurant, in the Matarraña region, bordering Catalonia

Mas de la Costa, a four-star boutique hotel, is located in the countryside near Valderrobres, a charming medieval village with narrow cobbled streets. The hotel is built around a renovated 1804 farmhouse (masía) with stables and barn, whose architectural elements were lovingly preserved: stone walls, wooden rafters. The buildings are surrounded by gardens with lovely mountain views, set in 23 hectares of olive and almond groves.

Françoise and Christian, the owners, created this charming hotel, environmentally friendly (off the grid), in harmony with its surroundings and history. Far from the madding crowd, our guests enjoy privileged private moments in elegant surroundings, with fine cuisine, in a natural setting. Our philosophy: Slow living, slow food.

Mas de la Costa offers installations for intimate and romantic weddings (up to 50 people). It also has two meeting rooms for business meetings such as strategy seminars of senior management, in quiet and discrete surroundings. Leave your day-to-day worries behind for a few days of brainstorming in a natural and calming setting offering comfort, privacy, personalised service and gourmet cuisine.

The rooms of Mas de la Costa are named after Françoise’s best-loved poets, whose books can be found in each room. They are decorated in a warm colonial style that complements simplicity and elegance. The old light-coloured teak-wood furniture create a cozy atmosphere. Our hotel has 15 rooms, decorated in a cosy colonial style, simple and elegant. Nearly all of them have lovely views. GASTRONOMIC RESTAURANT

Natural and regional dishes, with a focus on Mediterranean cuisine, not excluding influences from other countries’ fine cuisine. We work with organic produce and grow our own fruits and vegetables. Our restaurant is located in the ancient stables of the farm, which were extensively rehabilitated. The quadruple stone arches of the restaurant frame the mountain landscape beyond, providing impressive views of the Puertos de Beceite. Much of the year, lunch or dinner is served on the exterior terraces, from where one can admire the stars in our unpolluted night sky. Lunch and dinner at Mas de la Costa is à la carte and changes daily. Guests choose between two appetizers, two main courses and two desserts. The choices include traditional Spanish dishes but also some more exotic ones. We strive to offer something for all tastes. Upon request, and if markets permit, we can adapt our menu to the wishes of our guests. We adjust the dishes if a guest informs us of special dietary needs, food intolerances or allergies. For guests going on a full-day excursion, we can prepare a delicious picnic basket.

WINE CELLAR

The hotel has an honesty bar, which is on the ground floor of the old farmhouse. It is located in our wine cellar and offers a broad selection of before and after dinner drinks, as well as about 100 different wines from Spain, France, Italy and Argentina. In the lounges of the hotel, seated by a fireplace, or in the library, our guests can enjoy a nice glass of wine, their favourite scotch or a cocktail. Our guests help themselves to their favourite drinks and write down what they have consumed, as if they were at home. A very pleasant place to be in the quiet afternoon after a long day out.

VILLAGES OF THE MATARRAÑA
A DELUXE ESCAPADE WITH CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL ROUTES

To the east of Teruel province, far from the provincial capital, lies one of the most beautiful regions of Spain, the Matarraña. This region is composed of eighteen charming towns and villages with hidden cultural treasures, archaeological sites and sites of general interest. It is a land olive oil and fruit trees, which has remained very authentic. Hotel Mas de la Costa is surrounded by villages with medieval, Renaissance and Baroque heritage which allow one to travel back in history.  Below are just a few of the most charming villages.

VALDERROBRES

The following was written in National Geogrphic as it was one of the 10 most beautiful towns in the Teruel Province. "The capital of the Matarraña region is crossed by the homonymous river. Valderrobres is located on a hill, at the foot of the river, and in its municipal area there are many archaeological sites , as this area has been inhabited since time immemorial. Its old town , which is accessed through a beautiful medieval bridge that was part of the town's walls, is full of places of interest. Among them, the Castle-Palace, the church of Santa María la Mayor (great example of Levantine Gothic), its Town Hall or the Casa de los Moles stand out."

The cultural heritage of the town includes one of the town’s former paper mills (the old Noguera factory), the hermitage of Santa Ana, the Calvary. Around the town you will visit the Ports de Beceit moutain range, bathe in the Pesquera or hike the Parrizal.

CALACEITE
The origin of the name comes from the Arabic Calat Zeit. The town is adorned with Baroque-style buildings. On market day, Wednesday, the town is filled with colorful stalls and its smells flood the streets. Calaceite was declared of “cultural interest”. Nearby, you can visit the Iberian archeological site of San Antonio. This town is the gateway to Catalonia from Aragon and its historic complex has been an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1973.
